The University of Santo Tomas, is a comprehensive HEI offering 188 degree courses 78 of which are postgraduate. UST has a student population of 39,184, with 4,349 postgraduate and 790 international. UST has an autonomous status with Centres of Excellence in the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Teacher Education, Philosophy, Psychology, Tourism & Hospitality Management and Music. All Engineering Programs, IT and Physical Therapy are CODs. Its postgraduate programs in the fields of Business, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities are Level IV Accredited. UST maintains 120 bilateral agreements with HEIs and Research Institutes across 27 countries. Its internationalization strategy aims to expand opportunities for students and Faculty on cross-cultural immersions through Mobility programs, and with Internationalization at Home through Visiting International Academics, Hosting International Conferences, Joint Thematic Conferences, Research Collaboration, Joint/Dual degree programs and TNEs. UST is rated 4 stars by the QS. Its published research outputs are highly cited. UST also has high employability of its graduates.

UST actively promote international and intercultural understanding. It facilitates the exchange of people and ideas to enhance the academic and cultural environment of UST by bringing UST to the world and the university in internationalising the curricula, research and co-curricular activities through more functional collaboration with our international partners under the aegis of bilateral agreements or as part of networks.

The Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development has been postgraduate training programmes to the world’s health professionals since the 1970s. It is recognized as a WHO Collaborating Centre on Research and Capacity Strengthening of Health Policy, Governance and Services, and is one of UK’s most established and successful Centres for health systems research, education and teaching.

The Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development aims to assist low and middle-income countries to achieve universal health coverage by: seeking to understand how health systems operate and what factors influence their effectiveness; developing and test interventions appropriate to the context to see whether they are effective and cost-effective; and strengthening the capacity of health professionals to use their talents, education and professionalism to work effectively. 

The Centre has a well-established and popular portfolio of postgraduate and undergraduate courses. Alongside teaching, research carried out by the academic staff of the Centre and its international partners generates new knowledge to improve the health of communities in low and middle income countries. Its capacity development work seeks to assist policy makers and other decision makers to utilise a range of methods, evidence and tools in order to improve health system functioning. It has extensive experience:

  • in innovative research and project design, developing fruitful research partnerships, stakeholder networks, and building research capacities and dissemination skills. 
  • of designing public health and health systems focused on educational programmes and mainstreaming into the university curricula in numerous countries. 
  • on the design and implementation of research using a Total Economic Valuation techniques and facilitating participatory, multi-stakeholder processes across scales.

The Centre has extensive international networks to facilitate dissemination of project outputs; and will contribute to the design and quality assurance of the Public Health Programme, Continuous Professional Development and subsequent co-generation of new courses and content in beneficiary university UG/PG curricula, partner mentoring, and dissemination and uptake of work via external networks and stakeholders.
