PhD in Engineering 

Dual Degree

The Doctor of Engineering to be offered by the School of Engineering at the University of San Carlos (USC) is a degree to be awarded on the basis of advanced study and research in engineering or applied sciences. Major areas of specialisation are Food Engineering, Water Engineering, Waste Engineering, and Energy Engineering. An inter- or multi-disciplinary approach to the engineering and management of resources is also an important research field in any or in all of the above research areas, which can also encompass human, natural, and man-made resource engineering, planning, management, and quality assurance systems.

Students will apply and enroll at University of San Carlos (USC) in the first instance. Coventry University (CU) and USC will agree defined project that students at USC will be eligible to apply to by completing the CU application process. Only students enrolled at USC on the DEng programme will be eligible to apply to the Dual programme and will be subject to CU entry requirements including English Language requirements as defined within CU's Academic Regulations.

Key Learning Outcomes

The program is designed to prepare men and women for research and consulting positions in industry, government and service organizations, and teaching and research positions in colleges and universities. 

Graduates will be able to conceive, develop, and conduct original research leading to:

  • useful applications in engineering systems, especially involving food, water, waste and energy,
  • improvement of the efficiency of these systems,
  • development of indigenous and industrial sources for sustainable supply of food, water, and energy, and the management of wastes.

Application Requirements

A Master of Science degree in any engineering discipline obtained from an institution of recognized standing with a weighted average of 1.75 in the Masters course and proficient in written and oral English. The following documents are to be submitted six (6) weeks prior to the enrollment period of the semester:

1) Letter of Application addressed to the Doctoral Advisory Board

2) Completed application form with the following attachments:

  • Certified copy of Masters degree certificate
  • Transcript of Records
  • Doctoral study plan
  • List of publications and scientific presentations
  • Abstract of Masters thesis or project
  • Recommendation letters from two former professors
  • Graduate essay to be written at the Graduate Engineering Office at the time of submission
