Silliman University recently hosted the 1st Transnational Education (TNE) Monthly Learning Session organized by the British Council and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Held on January 18, 2017 at the University’s Anthropology Museum, Dr. Ben S. Malayang III and Chair of the Program Committee of the Silliman Board of Trustees, Dr. Angel C. Alcala, welcomed representatives from some of the top universities in the country, CHED representatives headed by Commissioner Minella Alarcon, and the British Council’s Head of Education, Ms. Lotus Postrado. The discussion focused on the issues around TNE project implementation and sharing of insights on the process of building international partnerships.

The learning session is part of the Joint Development of Niche Programmes through the Philippine – United Kingdom Linkage which aims to provide capacity and funding support for Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to establish international connectivity and engagement through developing TNE partnerships with HEIs in the UK.

On November 2016, Dr. Malayang and Dr. Alcala were with the delegation that went to London upon the invitation of the British Council and CHED and met with five universities for future partnership with Silliman in the areas of faculty development, student exchange, research as well as joint degree offering.
