The Wild Conference, organised by Slung Low with support from Arts Council England and the British Council, was held at Temple Newsam, Leeds, from 4 to 5 July 2019. The British Council sent a delegation of 30 arts and culture practitioners from around the world, including four Filipinos:

The conference was a platform for passionate cultural practitioners to listen, engage and share ideas about our cultural future. Discussions centered around cultural works in the UK, with the British Council delegates providing a wider, more inclusive and international perspective.

'The invited British Council delegates made a huge contribution to the global aspect of the conference. Their voices were heard in Q+As and in the two debates, and their articulate views on our sector were the most memorable contributions.' – Slung Low, “Wild Reflections”

New Connections

Filmmaker Kyle Nieva of the Film Producers Society was able to use his time at Wild to build new relationships and explore new collaborations, particularly with his co-delegates Regil Cadavos (ASPACE Cebu) and Marielle Nadal-Reyes (Craft MNL). Read his report here.

Kyle also produced the short film above about his time at the Wild Conference.

Cultural Residency

After the conference CIP Fellow Regil Cadavos was also invited to stay for a cultural residency with Slung Low. Reflecting on her experience at Wild and the residency, she writes, ‘My standout learning from Wild is that conferences, summits and arts events don’t have to be exclusive and forced. It can be as open and inclusive as we make it to be. Wild Conference had all the boxes checked: quality and excellent content, creative format, engagement and openness. As a leader of a co-working and creative hub in Cebu, I aim for our space to be as inclusive and collaborative as we can. We hope to create an impact in our local communities and neighbours and work together in taking action for a better and inclusive culture where artists and creative entrepreneurs can grow and thrive.’
