In celebration of the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare and in partnership with the South Manila Educational Consortium (SMEC) and Lyceum of the Philippines University, the British Council presents a spoken word competition entitled "Shaken Word" Shakespeare's Hugot Lines. Hugot is a Filipino word referring to a “drawing out" of emotions.”
The programme comprises a spoken word competition using Shakespeare’s lines, lectures on his influence in literature and the arts, and a masterclass for 30 teachers in teaching Shakespeare’s works. Interactive booths and pop-up performances will also take place during the event.
